I am often asked, what is reflexology, and does it really work? There is a lot to explain, so I'll ellaborate here. Reflexology is an alternative and naturopathic treatment for a wide variety of ailments. Reflexology has been used as an alternative healing method for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians and Chinese have well documented their use of reflexology to treat many afflictions. Our bodies are intricately connected in incredible ways, reflexologists use those connections to heal by applying pressure to specific areas in the hands, feet and ears that affect certain reflex areas in the body. Reflexology is much more than a foot or hand massage, but, at it’s foundation, that is the easiest way to describe the process.
Reflexology can help with countless ailments, everything from back pain and migraine relief to helping your energy levels. So, how does reflexology work? When the reflexes are stimulated, the body’s natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session seems to break up deposits which may interfere with the body’s electrical energy in the nervous system. Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, activating para-sympathetic response in the body to enable the blockages to be released by a physiological change in the body. With stress removed and circulation enhanced, the body can return to a state of homeostasis.
What is homeostasis? Homeostasis, from the Greek words for "same" and "steady," refers to any process that living things use to actively maintain stable conditions necessary for survival. Homeostasis describes how the human body maintains steady levels of temperature and other vital conditions such as the water, salt, sugar, protein, fat, calcium and oxygen contents of the blood. Similar processes dynamically maintain steady-state conditions in the Earth's environment. If our homeostasis is out of sorts, we can experience a vast number of ailments, from pain to low energy and circulation.
4 of the biggest benefits of Reflexology:
1. Relaxation with the removal of stress
2. Enhanced circulation
3. Assists the body to normalize the metabolism naturally
4. Complements all other healing modalities
